McCoy Farm & Gardens
In 2025, McCoy Farm & Gardens proudly celebrated its 10th year open to the public. The homeplace of U.S. Senator Nathan Bachman was transferred by gift/sale to the Town of Walden by his family. Since 2015, the 38 acres have been run by a nonprofit. The Bachman-McCoy Farm was recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The home and the many preserved outbuildings reflect the character of an early 20th-century gentleman’s farm. The grounds include the historic apple orchard, an arboretum with 72 labeled tree species, and many restored and new gardens. Almost 2.5 miles of walking trails wind through woodlands and along the headwaters of Shoal Creek. The homesite of noted naturalist, author, and artist Emma Bell Miles is also on the property. McCoy is honored to own over 20 of her original works. McCoy hosts several signature community events every year, including the Egg Roll, a Memorial Day Picnic, and a Tree Lighting, as well as dozens of private events. Whether visiting for a major holiday event or walking in the woods daily, its specialness is apparent. McCoy stands as a testament to the power of place and to the volunteers and supporters who make its mission possible.
