Sam Elliot

Town Attorney Sam D. Elliott is a member of the Chattanooga law firm of Gearhiser, Peters, Elliott & Cannon, PLLC  and practices primarily in the field of litigation and local government representation. He is the attorney for Walden, Soddy Daisy, Collegedale, Lakesite, Ridgeside, and Monteagle, as well as the Eastside Utility District, and has represented other governments and government offices in Southeast Tennessee. Sam is listed in the publication Best Lawyers in America for Bet the Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Litigation – Labor and Employment, Litigation-Land Use and Zoning, Litigation-Municipal and Municipal Law. He has been selected as a Mid-South Super Lawyer every year since 2006 and is AV® Preeminent™ rated in Martindale-Hubbell.

Sam is a past president of both the Tennessee Bar Association and the Chattanooga Bar Association and is a Fellow of the American, Tennessee and Chattanooga Bar Foundations.    He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Tennessee Bar Foundation.   He is an avocational historian of Tennesseans during the Civil War era, has written award-winning books on Tennessee History, and is the Chairman of the Tennessee Historical Commission.  He and his wife, Karen have two adult daughters and a grandson, and live on Signal Mountain.
